UTSA emergency alert system launches Jan. 30UTSA has a new way to communicate quickly and directly with students, faculty and staff in the advent of a campus emergency. On Jan. 30, UTSA enacted the Reverse 911 communication system. The system will generate calls, e-mails and/or text messages to those who have registered through the online ASAP information system for the service. Read more on UTSA Today.
Get in shape now for Diploma Dash 2008Walk, jog or race to Diploma Dash 2008, UTSA's annual 5K run and fitness walk, at 9 a.m., Saturday, March 1 at the 1604 Campus. Participants have a choice of a certified 5K course and a scenic 1.5 mile course. Registration is $20 in advance, $30 on race day. UTSA students can register before the day of the race for just $10. Proceeds from the event, which doubles as the San Antonio City Championship Race, benefit the Alumni Scholarship Fund, UTSA track athletes, and alumni programs and services. Read more on UTSA Today.

EOS e-mail change reflects new office nameThe Office of Equal Opportunity Services has a new e-mail address: eos.office@utsa.edu. Formerly the Office of Institutional Diversity, the old e-mail address was diversity.office@utsa.edu. E-mails to both addresses will be active for an indefinite period of time. Audix voice mail system to be replaced Feb. 3UTSA Telephone Services will replace the current Avaya Audix voice mail system with the new Cisco Unity system on Sunday, Feb. 3. Technical support is ending for the Avaya software, so replacement software was required. UTSA voice mail users must set up voice mail (i.e. record greeting message) as if they are new users. Details were sent by e-mail to voice mail users. Additionally, several voice mails about the new system were broadcast to users. Staff Council scholarship application deadline is Feb. 15Applications for the UTSA Staff Council Scholarships will be accepted through Feb. 15. Classified and administrative and professional employees who meet the scholarship criteria are encouraged to apply. Scholarships of $250 will be awarded for Fall 2008 to one undergraduate and one graduate student. The council raises scholarship funds by selling bottled water at May commencement ceremonies and other events. These and other fundraising events will ensure the continuation of the scholarships. Pick up an application at the Scholarship Office at John Peace Library Building Room 1.01.20, 1604 Campus, or download an application at the UTSA Staff Council Web site. Applicants must complete the application, write a biographical essay and submit them to the Scholarship Office by Feb. 15.
