Water outage affects 1604 Campus, 5-11 p.m., Feb. 15There will be a 1604 Campus water outage from 5 to 11 p.m., Friday, Feb. 15, if the outside temperature is 50-60 degrees F. Autoclaves and cage washers in the Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering (BSE) and Biosciences buildings will be out of operation during the outage. As part of an upgrade project at the north thermal energy plant, the outage is necessary to connect fire sprinkler piping. Thermal energy plants provide chilled water and steam to the 1604 Campus. Air handling units will be in operation during the outage to maintain comfortable temperatures in 1604 Campus buildings. More information: Facilities Work Control, 458-4262

The event features more than 60 community leaders and UTSA professors leading conversations on topics from the fields of business, the arts, culture, health and wellness, education and current events. Faculty invited to security research lunch meetingFaculty members interested in security research are invited to a Security Studies Working Group meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 21 in the Business Building University Room (2.02.04), 1604 Campus. Hosted by the Office of the Associate Vice President for Research, participants can learn about new research opportunities while enjoying a free lunch provided by Jason's Deli. Coaches needed for March 24 Ethics BowlFaculty and staff members are needed to serve as coaches for the third annual UTSA Ethics Bowl competition. Hosted by the UTSA Honors Alliance and the Office of Student Judicial Affairs, the event is 5:30-9 p.m., Monday, March 24 in the University Center Retama Auditorium (2.02.02), 1604 Campus. Student teams will consist of three presenters, one alternate member and a UTSA faculty or staff member coach. Teams will deliberate on ethical dilemmas through research, discussion and resolution. Handbook of Operating Procedures is updatedUTSA Handbook of Operating Procedures (HOP) Policy 5.17, "Student Fitness to Teach Policy," was updated to clarify processes and procedures. Check February appointment, payroll deadlinesThe Payroll Office requests that departments plan accordingly to meet February payroll deadlines. View the complete payroll deadline calendar. On the payroll calendar, "appointment deadline" pertains to submission of a final approved appointment to the Office of Human Resources. For example, for the March 7 payday, the appointment deadline is Feb. 26 and the pay voucher deadline is March 4. More information: Javier Martinez, 458-4282
Get in shape now for Diploma Dash 2008Walk, jog or race to Diploma Dash 2008, UTSA's annual 5K run and fitness walk, at 9 a.m., Saturday, March 1 at the Convocation Center on the 1604 Campus. Participants have a choice of a certified 5K course and a scenic 1.5 mile course. Registration is $20 in advance, $30 on race day. UTSA students can register before the day of the race for just $10. Proceeds from the event, which doubles as the San Antonio City Championship Race, benefit the Alumni Scholarship Fund, UTSA track athletes, and alumni programs and services. UTSA faculty, staff and Alumni Association members and their partners can get in shape for Diploma Dash by joining the UTSA Recreation Center for a low monthly rate. The newly expanded UTSA Recreation and Wellness Center on the 1604 Campus is a 300,000-square-foot facility with fitness facilities, training and nutrition programs.
