QEP pre-proposal deadline is May 15Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) pre-proposals are due May 15. The QEP Committee will select three or four exemplary pre-proposals by May 30 to be developed as full proposals. A $2,500 summer stipend per pre-proposal will be awarded for the development of a full proposal. More information: SACS Web site
TEAM Center hosts faculty teaching workshopThe Teaching, Excellence, Advancement and Mentoring (TEAM) Center will host the free Summer Teaching Workshop Series for faculty members on May 5, 7 and 9 at the 1604 Campus. The May 5 and 7 sessions will be in the University Center Pecan Room (2.01.26); the May 9 sessions will be in the Biosciences Building Loeffler Room (3.03.02). On May 5, Robert A. Duke, director of the Center for Music Learning at UT-Austin, will present "Why Students Don't Learn What We Think We Teach." On May 7, Fred A. Bonner II, associate professor of educational administration and human resource development at Texas A&M University-College Station, will present "Effective Teaching: Strategies for the Contemporary College Classroom." On May 9, Tara Gray, director of the Teaching Academy at New Mexico State University, will present a morning workshop, "Publish and Flourish," which will be repeated that afternoon. Parking permits for next year are available nowUTSA parking permits for the 2008-2009 academic year are now on sale through the ASAP online information system. Faculty and staff can purchase a permit by payroll deduction and spread the cost over 12 months. Either pre-tax or post-tax payment can be selected. Additionally, the new south parking garage is open at the 1604 Campus. To park in the garage, faculty and staff must purchase a "reserved garage" (RG) permit. This permit will feature a magnetic stripe which when scanned will allow access to the south garage starting this fall. U.S. Postal Service increases postage rates May 12The U.S. Postal Service will increase the price of first-class stamps from 41 to 42 cents effective Monday, May 12. Other price increases include: first-class letter (2 oz.), $0.59; postcard, $0.27; first-class large envelope (2 oz.), $1; and certified mail, $2.70.
