Provide support for UTSA family after tragic deathThe UTSA community is mourning the loss of Pedro Nieto, a UTSA housekeeping building attendant, who died tragically Dec. 6. Nieto is survived by Sofia Nieto, also a UTSA housekeeping building attendant, and two sons, ages 20 and 22. To provide support for the Nieto family, an account has been established at Frost Bank. Donations can be made at any Frost financial center, including the branch in the University Center at the 1604 Campus. Donations should be made payable to the "Pedro A. Nieto Memorial Fund." Donate to 'Toys for Tots' through Dec. 19The UTSA Center for Archaeological Research (CAR) is collecting new, unwrapped toys and gifts for the Toys for Tots program. Donations will be accepted until noon, Friday, Dec. 19. CAR staff members will deliver the toys to the Marine Reserve collection station the afternoon of Dec. 19. Donations can be taken to four sites on the 1604 Campus and one site at University Heights:

Office of VP for Student Affairs sponsors 'Adopt-A-Family'Many area families in need have been referred to the Family Service Association for a variety of reasons including poverty, job loss, death of a family member and other critical circumstances. Staff members from the UTSA Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs adopted 22 of these families this month through the Family Service Association 'Adopt-A-Family' program. Families ranged in size from one senior citizen to 10 or more family members. Gifts filled six cars and trucks and included basketball hoops, bicycles, a chest of drawers, clothes, gift cards, personal necessities, toys and more. Families are still available for adoption. To adopt a family, contact Elsa De La Fuente at 299-2400.

Dec. 20 AC outage set for Multidisciplinary Studies BuildingMaintenance work will cause an air conditioning outage in the Multidisciplinary Studies Building on the 1604 Campus from approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 20. More information: Facilities Work Control, 458-4262
1604 Campus steam outage is Dec. 29Repair and replacement of steam valves and other maintenance work will cause a steam outage at some 1604 Campus buildings from approximately 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 29. The outage could end before 7 p.m. if the outside temperature reaches 45 degrees. If the temperature is not expected to reach 65 degrees, the outage will be rescheduled for Dec. 30. Because temperatures in the affected buildings may be slightly cooler than normal, employees working Dec. 29-30 should dress accordingly. The outage will affect hot water and heating to these buildings:
During the steam outage, autoclaves will be inoperable in these buildings:
The outage will not affect heating to the Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering Building. Facilities staff will work with Marcel Perret-Gentil and Luis Zorrilla and closely monitor temperatures in the animal labs. More information: Facilities Work Control, 458-4262
HOP changes: New policy, updated policyIn the UTSA Handbook of Operating Procedures (HOP), policy 3.3, "Discipline and Dismissal of Classified Employees," has been updated to reflect current practices. Policy 9.3, "Handbook of Operating Procedures Amendment Approval Process," has been adopted to reflect changes in Regents' Rules regarding amendments to institutional handbooks.
