Staff Council scholarship application deadline is Feb. 13

UTSA Staff Council announces the continuation of the employee scholarship program for 2009-2010. The Scholarship Office must receive applications and an accompanying personal essay by Friday, Feb. 13. Classified and administrative-and-professional employees who meet the scholarship criteria are encouraged to apply. Scholarships of $250 will be awarded for Fall 2009 to one undergraduate and one graduate student. The council raises scholarship funds by selling bottled water at May commencement ceremonies and other events.

Pick up an application at the Scholarship Office at John Peace Library Building Room 1.01.20, 1604 Campus, or download an application at the UTSA Staff Council Web site. The download includes the scholarship criteria and application.

 

Food, dance and more: Asian Festival is Saturday, Jan. 31

The 22nd annual Asian Festival is 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 31 at UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures, 801 South Bowie St. The festival showcases Asian cultures through dance, martial arts, foods, games, fashions, dress and customs. Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for children, seniors and military. Read more on UTSA Today.

Enter 'Best Dressed Door and Office Contest'

As part of UTSA Homecoming 2009, the Campus Activities Board will sponsor the "Best Dressed Door and Office Contest." As part of the festivities, faculty and staff can decorate their doors or departmental offices. The theme is "Battle of the Beaks," and the homecoming men's basketball game is against Lamar University. The winners must show the most UTSA spirit, creativity and use of the homecoming theme. Decorating can begin Monday, Feb. 16 and must be completed by Friday, Feb. 20. Judging will be Feb. 23-25.

Winners for the Downtown Campus/Institute of Texan Cultures group and 1604 Campus/University Heights group will be announced Friday, Feb. 27 at Rowdy Rampage. Plaques will be awarded in multiple categories. First-place winners also will receive breakfast tacos at their offices Friday, March 6.

Train now for Diploma Dash, Feb. 21

The UTSA Recreation Center is sponsoring a program to get you in shape for Diploma Dash. Train now for the 25th annual UTSA Alumni Diploma Dash 5K San Antonio City Championship Race and Fitness Walk, Saturday, Feb. 21, on the 1604 Campus.
