UTSA Police Department awards breakfast is Feb. 26

The UTSA Police Department will celebrate its annual awards breakfast ceremony to recognize employee achievements and present two Golden Whistle awards. Free and open to the university community, the breakfast begins at 8:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 26 in the University Center Denman Room (2.01.28), 1604 Campus. Read details on UTSA Today.

Business Auxiliary Services opens UH pilot shuttle program

The Transportation Services division of UTSA Business Auxiliary Services will begin a pilot program providing van service from the 1604 Campus to UTSA offices at the University Heights office park on Hausman Road. Beginning Tuesday, March 3, service will be offered each Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 pm. The van will accommodate six passengers. Service from the Main Building to University Heights (main entrance at Human Resources) will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will be offered every 30 minutes. The last shuttle will leave from the Main Building at 1 p.m. and service will end at 1:30 p.m.

UTSA hosts safe break health and wellness expo March 4

UTSA will host the "Escape to Sombrilla Island" Health and Wellness Expo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 4 at Sombrilla Plaza on the 1604 Campus. The event will include 50 exhibitors from community resources and UTSA departments, health screenings and information (diabetes, vision), mind and body demonstrations, and fire safety tips, among other activities. The event will feature UTSA's Health and Kinesiology Mobile Unit at the Convocation Center, where participants will receive free health assessments and health information.

Additionally, faculty and staff members are invited to the presentation, "The Importance of Nutrition, Exercise and Your Health," by Rolando Roman, UT System wellness coordinator. Roman will discuss dietary guidelines, food labels, smoking, blood pressure, cholesterol and skin cancer. Sponsored by the Office of Human Resources, you can register for the session at TX Class, course ID SD279. Healthy refreshments will be served at the class.

Submit nominations for University Excellence Awards

Nominations are being accepted for the University Excellence Awards, which honor outstanding UTSA staff members. The nomination deadline is 5 p.m., Friday, March 6. The ceremony is 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 14 in the University Center III Ballroom (1.104), 1604 Campus. At the ceremony, 2008 service award winners and retirees also will be recognized.

A $1,000 award will accompany the Rising Star Award, Leadership Award, Team Spirit Award, Extra Mile Award and Order of the Roadrunner Award. Additionally, nominations are being accepted for individuals or work teams for the Richard S. Howe Excellence in Service to Undergraduate Students Award. Winners of the award could receive up to $2,000.

Students can pay tuition and fees with American Express

UTSA students now can pay for tuition and other fees using the American Express card in addition to MasterCard and Discover. Credit card payments are accepted for:

  • Adding funds to the UTSACard
  • Parking permits and VIA bus passes
  • Library and parking fines
  • Testing
  • Locker rental
  • Audit
  • Application fees
  • Housing and meal plans
  • Study abroad
  • Thesis binding

Credit card payments can be made online through ASAP. Credit card and debit card payments are subject to a 1.855 percent fee on the amount paid.
