UTSA continues to monitor swine flu

UTSA officials continue to monitor the swine flu situation. All UTSA campuses (Main, Downtown and HemisFair Park) are open and operating on a regular schedule. UTSA President Ricardo Romo has asked the university's Emergency Response Team to coordinate updates for the UTSA community.

President, provost host faculty honors event April 30

President Ricardo Romo and Provost John Frederick will host the Faculty Honors Convocation at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 30 in the University Center Retama Auditorium (2.02.02) on the Main Campus. The event is free and open to the UTSA community with a reception following the ceremony. The ceremony will honor 11 recipients of the President's Distinguished Achievement Awards in teaching and research and the winner of the Chancellor's Council Outstanding Teaching Award, along with recipients of service anniversary awards and acknowledgement of retirees.

You Decide 2009: UTSA hosts early-voting site

Registered voters in Bexar County can early-vote at UTSA. Early voting for the 2009 San Antonio mayoral and city council election runs April 27-May 5 at the Main Building ground floor lobby on the UTSA Main Campus. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to take advantage of the convenient location.

Free tickets are available for Bill Clinton lecture

Nine hundred fifty free tickets are available for UTSA community members to hear former President William J. Clinton speak at 5:30 p.m., Friday, May 8 at Trinity University's Laurie Auditorium. The tickets are available on a first-come, first served basis at the information center in University Center Room 1.002 on the Main Campus. Read more on UTSA Today.

CalTech expert to discuss consciousness May 5

The UTSA Neurosciences Institute Distinguished Lecture Series will present Christof Koch, professor at California Institute of Technology, speaking on "The Neurobiology of Consciousness: What Do We Know and How Can We Find Out More?" at 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 5 at the University Center Retama Auditorium (2.02.02) on the UTSA Main Campus. Purchase your 2009-2010 UTSA parking permit by May 15 and you will be entered to win an 8G iPod Touch, courtesy of UTSA Parking and Transportation Services. Order your permit via the ASAP online information system by logging in and ordering your permit -- and you're entered in the drawing.

 

Postage cost increases May 11

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) approved a first-class stamp price increase of 2 cents. Effective May 11, a one-ounce first-class stamp will cost 44 cents. The USPS also has increased prices for standard mail, periodicals and package services including parcel post. These increases will be reflected in departmental mailroom charges.

Water conservation, restriction plan begins

In support of water conservation and stage one water restrictions, UTSA Office of Facilities Business Operations staff shut down Main Campus fountains April 20 at Sombrilla Plaza, the University Center and the Biosciences Building.
