2007 - 2008 4th Quarter Recipient
Business Affairs is proud to recognize Ms. Jane Wilcox, Director, Business Auxiliary Services and Interim Director, Parking and Transportation Services, as the 4th quarter recipient of the Celebrating Excellence Award. Jane was nominated for her leadership, sense of urgency, and creativity in bringing transformational change to dining services at UTSA! She worked diligently and strategically to bring a host of new food service venues to campus. These venues have already proven to be wildly successful. The project began last fall with a decision to rebid the dining services contract. A new contract was completed in record time! Jane’s leadership was instrumental in producing a comprehensive RFP and constructing an evaluation process that included representatives from constituencies across UTSA, including Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, the Downtown Campus, Financial Affairs, and students. Jane’s role in the expeditious preparation and negotiation of the contract was absolutely key. She had learned a lot from her work with the prior vendor and the contract negotiated with them 5 years ago. The new contract includes a wide variety of provisions that favor UTSA and provides a firm footing for our relatively long-term relationship with our dining services “partner.” It is hard to describe the importance of the work done on the contract. It is this work, known and seen by very few, that will be the strong foundation for the success of the dining services program for years to come. As of the opening of the Fall 2008 semester, construction was complete and several branded venues desired by the students were a reality on campus. Panda Express, Taco Cabana, and Chick-Fil-A are proving to be very popular with long, but fast-moving lines. The UC foodcourt and adjacent courtyard have never been so well used. The nearby Starbucks continues to be popular and the Subway was moved to a new location in the UC III. A new convenience store, also operated by the dining services contractor, is located where the Subway used to be. The hours of operation for all venues are longer and include weekend hours at some venues! The expansion of the Roadrunner Café was opened in the summer and ARAMARK has brought a fresh new approach to the dining experience at the Café. Staff members ate at the Café in record numbers over the summer and continue to enjoy the value the Café offers. Never before has faculty and staff found the campus dining experience so enjoyable. Overall, retail food sales on campus are approximately 90% higher this year than they were one year ago. In addition to all of this, Jane took responsibility for the Parking and Transportation Services Department (PTS) in May with the departure of the Director. She oversaw the opening of the new parking garage and the implementation of significantly expanded transportation services offered by PTS. Each of these projects represents change at UTSA and required innovation and great teamwork to accomplish. Thank you, Jane, for promoting the Business Affairs brand "Your Partner for Successful Solutions" exemplifying the Celebrating Excellence goals of demonstrating leadership, creativity, innovation and team work. And, congratulations, for your second Celebrating Excellence award!
