The Robert A. Welch Chair in Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is pleased to announce the establishment of a Welch Chair in Chemistry. This generous endowment by the Welch Foundation, UTSA and the State of Texas will enable us to recruit an outstanding scientist who will contribute to our aggressively expanding chemistry program within UTSA as well as our collaborative programs with local and world-class research institutions. Opening for Postdoctoral Fellow in Dr. Harry Jarrett's Lab
A position for a postdoctoral fellow will be open in the laboratory of Prof. Harry W. Jarrett, Department of Chemistry, University of Texas at San Antonio on April 1, 2012.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a suitable equivalent and expertise in the analysis of the transcription factor proteome in humans. Our laboratory develops new methods for purifying transcription factors using affinity chromatography techniques and their characterization by interfacing 2-dimensional electrophoresis gel blots to LC-MS/MS. Experience with SILAC and LC-MS/MS would be helpful though not required. Prof. Jarrett is also co-director of the UTSA RCMI Proteomics and Protein Biomarkers Core facility and the successful candidate will interact closely with that group.
Additionally, applicants must be able to:
- plan and carry out experimental work efficiently and independently
- interpret both practical and theoretical results
- work flexible hours occasionally to satisfy the goals of the research project
- bring enthusiasm for top-quality research, self-motivation and ability to work and communicate in a multidisciplinary team
- participate in regular team meetings
- generate publications from his/her work, present the results in scientific meetings, and help enhance the research reputation of the University.
Salary will be adjusted according to experience and productivity and is complemented by an additional comprehensive benefits package. The selected candidate will be initially appointed for 6 months, with the possibility of subsequent extensions, depending on performance and funding availability.
