Science Major Degree Plans and Semester-by-Semester
4-Year Plans

Majors and Minors:

UTSA offers BS degrees in Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Environmental Science, Physics, Multidisciplinary Science, Computer Science, and Mathematics. BA degrees, which are usually for students planning on teaching at the secondary level, are available in Chemistry, Geology, and Physics.

To declare a science major or a science minor, you must schedule an appointment to meet with a Science advisor in the CoS Advising Center. Note: Although a minor is not required, in order to declare one, it must be in a subject that UTSA offers and is an approved minor for UTSA.  For example, you can be a Biology major with a Chemistry minor but not a Chemistry major with a Biology minor because UTSA does not offer a Biology minor.

To declare a non-science minor, you must see an advisor in the College for that minor to fill out the necessary paperwork and discuss what is required. For example, to declare a Psychology minor, you will need to visit the College of Liberal and Fine Arts (CoLFA) Advising Center.

Catalog:

Catalog of Graduation:  This is the catalog in effect at the time that you entered your first semester at UTSA. This catalog governs your degree plan requirements and rules for graduation.

If you are not certain about which catalog you are under, check in ASAP. If you want to change catalogs or need more information about them, please contact our center for an appointment. Information concerning your catalog of
graduation can be found at the following website:
http://www.utsa.edu/infoguide/ch4ug.cfm#

Some transfer students may be eligible to move back to an earlier catalog according to when they were enrolled at a Texas Junior College. Before choosing to do this, the student should compare eligible catalogs to see how the transfer courses fit and what, if any, requirements have changed.

Set up an appointment to see an advisor to check your eligibility, review your  degree plan for the new/proposed catalog and complete the necessary paperwork.

Expiration of Catalog:  A catalog's expiration date depends on the student. A catalog expires 7 years after you were first eligible for that catalog. For example, if you completed a course in the Fall 2002, then the 2002-04 catalog would expire for you in the Fall 2009, which means you need to graduate by December 2009. See a CoS Advisor to determine if you are eligible for another catalog.

Degree Plans:

Although several catalogs are still active, only the 2 most recent degree and 4-year plans are listed here. Visit the CoSUAC for older catalogs.

The "official" degree plan is listed in the catalog of graduation under which you were admitted. The Advising Center has degree plan worksheets for each catalog of graduation available in the reception area. There are two ways to get an updated degree plan: 1) Set up an appointment with a CoS advisor or 2) Attend a group advising session.
