Academic Advising

The UTSA Downtown Undergraduate Advising Center serves students majoring in Architecture, Construction Science & Management, Criminal Justice, Infancy and Childhood Studies, Interior Design, Mexican American Studies and Public Administration. Professional academic advisors will partner with you to help you succeed towards your academic goals. We can assist you with information and clarification about degree requirements; transfer coursework, academic and university policies, registration procedures and much more. The University Bookstore offers a full line of new and used textbooks, reference books, school and office supplies, academically-priced software, clothing and gift items, greeting cards, snacks, drinks, and sundries. The University Bookstore buys textbooks year-round at competitive prices. The Bookstore is located on the first floor of the Frio Street Building (FS 1.402). Campus Recreation

The Downtown Campus offers UTSA students and Campus Rec members a Fitness Center, located on the third floor of the Durango Building (DB 3.302). An array of group fitness classes are offered on the second floor of the Frio Building (FS 2.448) during fall and spring semesters. Visit Campus Rec Downtown Programs online to learn more.

Counseling Services

The clinic is located in the Frio Street Building (FS 4.556). Mental health treatment and referral assistance is offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays, by appointment only, to UTSA students.

Student Counseling Services offers appointments with a licensed counselor and a variety of other professional services including individual counseling, psychotherapy, relationship counseling and group counseling. Counseling Services provides individual and couples counseling at the Downtown Campus. All other services can be accessed at the main campus.

The clinic at the Downtown Campus is open during the fall and spring semesters. The clinic closes during summer, on or about June 1st , and re-opens during the first week of classes of the following fall semester.

If you would like to arrange for services at the Downtown Campus, call (210) 458-4140 for phone triage. The phone triage is a brief, 15-20 minute screening that will help our staff determine the best level of treatment based on your specific situation and needs. During the phone triage, you can inform the clinical staff that you wish to be seen at the downtown clinic.

Dining Services

The UTSA Downtown Campus dining facilities are located on the first floor of the Frio Street Building in the Commons area. For information on dining options, hours of operation and monthly deals, visit UTSA Dining online.

Disability Services

Student Disability Services coordinates support services for UTSA students with temporary or permanent disabilities to ensure equal access to all educational programs and activities. Services available to students include registration, assistance, test accommodations, volunteer note-takers, recorded text, interpreters for the deaf and assistive technology such as audio enhancement systems and adaptive computers.

Health Services

Student Health Services provides students with a free telephonic triage nurse line during business hours (Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.). Telephone triage nurses help students over the phone, answering their health questions and determining what kind of care they need. Telephonic triage nurses can also schedule an appointment for a student at our Main Campus clinic (RWC 1.500). There is no Downtown Campus clinic. To reach a telephonic triage nurse, students can call 210-458-4142 and select menu option 3.

Students can schedule a medical appointment at Student Health Services online using the myMed Patient portal. Students needing medical assistance at night or on weekends can visit our website for maps of urgent care clinics, emergency rooms and find the Community Resource Guide.


UTSA students who take all or some of their classes at the Downtown Campus may choose to live closer to downtown San Antonio. While on-campus housing is not offered at the Downtown Campus, there are several housing options close to the campus.


Located on the second floor of the Buena Vista Building (BV 2.314) with a stunning view overlooking the city skyline, the Downtown Library provides the same services available at the John Peace Library (JPL) on Main Campus.

The Downtown Library houses the main collections of books and periodicals for architecture, interior design, criminal justice, public administration and social work. In addition, the Library has a core collection of books and periodicals covering most subjects, as well as a collection of DVDs and CDs.

The Library Express Delivery Service between the Downtown and Main campuses provides easy access to materials housed in the JPL. Borrowing materials from other libraries is just a click away via interlibrary loan.

The UTSA Libraries provide access to a vast number of online resources, including 345 databases, 48,000 e-journals and 976,000 e-books. UTSA students, faculty and staff can access these materials from an off-campus computer by logging in with their myUTSA ID (abc123) and password when prompted. Non-UTSA patrons can access these materials from any library computer.

The Downtown Library offers more than 80 desktop computers, and also has printers, media viewing equipment and a high-speed KIC scanner. Laptop computers are available for check-out from the Front Desk. In addition, Student Computing Services staff are available to provide on-site technical support.

The Downtown Library is a great place to study with comfortable seating, quiet study areas, and group study rooms available for check out. Library staff are available to assist students, faculty, staff and the general public with their research needs. Tutoring is offered in the Library through our collaboration with the Tomás Rivera Center.

Parking & Bus Info

The UTSA Downtown Campus has many parking options for students, employees and visitors. A UTSA parking permit is required to park in all UTSA lots. Students may purchase the "C" Commuter Student permit and park in any of the unmarked spots in the surface parking lots surrounding the campus.

Many students utilize San Antonio's public transportation system - VIA Metropolity Transit - to get to and from the campus. Several major bus routes serve the UTSA Downtown Campus community, including Routes 93 and 94, which allow students to travel back and forth between the Main and Downtown Campuses.

Students may purchase a VIA 5-month Semester Pass for just $35! The Student Semester Pass can be purchased near the start of each semester at the Roadrunner Express store at the Main Campus or at any VIA Information Centers throughout the city. All you need is your school photo ID and proof that you are currently enrolled and have paid your tuition.


The safety of our Downtown Campus community is of utmost importance. The UTSA Police Department is located on the first floor of the Buena Vista Building (BV 1.303) and the campus enjoys 24/7 coverage by uniformed officers. Each building, inside and out, is equipped with security cameras.

Students, faculty and staff members can reach the UTSA Police non-emergency line by calling 210-458-4242 to request a safety escort or a safety whistle, request after-hours room/building access, drop off or search for items in Lost & Found, or to report any suspicious activity or behavior.


The Downtown Campus Office of the Registrar is located within the One-Stop Enrollment Services Center on the first floor of the Frio Street Building (FS 1.504). This office handles questions concerning registration, manages course waitlisting, determines residency status for undergraduate tuition, assists with veterans certification for education benefits, guides the graduation application process, assists with commencement ceremonies, fulfills transcript requests, administers classroom scheduling, maintains a forms library and provides many other services to ensure student success.

Testing Services

Student Testing Services provides placement exams, credit-by-exams (such as CLEP, DSST, IS 1403 Test Out, CBE), admissions and program-specific exams (such as TOEFL IBT, THEA iBT, Accuplacer) and administers national and state standardized tests (such as LSAT, TExES, ACT). A member of the National College Testing Association, the Downtown Campus Testing Services Center is located on the first floor of the Buena Vista Building (BV 1.302).

Tomás Rivera Center for Student Success (TRC)

Housed in the Durango Building (DB 2.114), the Tomás Rivera Center for Student Success provides comprehensive academic advising services and support programs for undecided and provisionally admitted students. The center also focuses on improving academic skills and retention rates for all UTSA students. It offers tutoring, Supplemental Instruction and study skills workshops. In addition, the Access College and Excel (ACE) Scholars Program is housed at the TRC, as is non-course based developmental instruction in reading, writing and mathematics. The UTSACard is the official university identification and debit card. Students, faculty and staff can deposit money into their account and use the card to purchase items at Dining Services, Campus Bookstore, Student Health Services, Print Spot locations and more. University Career Center

The University Career Center provides comprehensive career planning, employment and internships search services to UTSA students and alumni. Students can use the online job bank, Handshake, to search for various positions or internships, schedule appointments, and register for workshops and upcoming events

Both online career and face-to-face career counseling is available to students to help them explore career choices and majors. Counselors also provide assistance on job and internship searching, mock interviews and resume development.

The UTSA Career Closet allows students to borrow professional attire for their job interviews. Various workshops and meet-ups are offered throughout the year and focus on bringing back successful alumni to talk about their career paths, employers who speak about career topics and advice, and career counselors who customize workshops to various student groups.

Employment recruiting events such as on-campus interviews with employers, employer recruiting tables and career and job fairs are also coordinated by the University Career Center.
