A Message from Our President

Dear UTSA students, faculty, staff and administrators:

As a leader in providing higher education to a diverse group of students, UTSA maintains a strong commitment to ensuring a campus climate that welcomes and promotes respect for all members of the university community.  Our commitment to act affirmatively to meet this goal must be articulated throughout UTSA if we are to create a climate for success and move toward serving as a national model for universities.  Experience at UTSA and at other universities, as well as national research, suggests that success requires a visible statement of goals and priorities.  As part of this institutional objective, our institution strives to meet student, faculty and staff needs, by collecting and monitoring appropriate data to foster a healthy, productive, and equitable campus environment.

In our commitment to faculty, staff and students, the Office of Equal Opportunity Services (EOS) supports learning and a working environment that is inclusive and free of illegal discrimination and harassment.  The goal of the EOS is to establish a campus climate that welcomes and promotes respect for all members of the university community in employment, academics, research, and service programs.  In keeping with the mission of the university, we actively promote affirmative action, equal employment and educational opportunities for all.

The University of Texas System Board of Regents has expressed its strong commitment by adopting the following policy for the University of Texas System and all of its components:

To the extent provided by applicable law, no person shall be excluded from  participation in, denied benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under, any program or activity sponsored or conducted by the System or any of its component institutions, on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, veteran status, disability or sexual orientation.

Should any faculty, staff, administrator or student have concerns related to discrimination or sexual harassment, these concerns can be taken directly to the Office of Equal Opportunity Services.

It is the goal of our institution to move beyond minimal legal requirements and to create an environment that supports and values the unique contributions of each member of UTSA’s increasingly diverse student body, faculty, staff and administration.  I urge each of you to join me in that commitment.
