UTSA Raising Graduation Rates Summit

March 24, 2006

Welcome to the Spring 2006 UTSA Raising Graduation Rates Summit.

Background

The University of Texas at San Antonio has had a long-term commitment to provide access to higher education and to promote student success. We remain concerned that our graduation rates continue to lag behind state and national graduation rate averages. Raising graduation rates is a priority of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the U.T. System Board of Regents, and the Texas Legislature. The state-wide Closing the Gaps initiative calls on colleges and universities to provide broad access to higher education and to promote the success of the students served. UTSA has a key role in the Texas for meeting the goals articulated in the Closing the Gaps Initiative.

Raising Graduation Rates is Top Priority

The U.T. System Board of Regents on February 9, 2006, approved a resolution making raising graduation rates a priority for the next ten years.

Goal of the UTSA Summit:

The purpose of the 2006 Raising Graduation Rates Summit is to provide the UTSA community with the opportunity to discuss factors that influence student success, strategies used to promote student success, and resources available to support students and faculty. Additionally, this Summit will serve as an important step in developing a plan to increase graduation rates.
