DEAP Information Sessions:

All students interested in DEAP should first attend an information session to learn about the program and how to apply before scheduling an individual appointment with an advisor.

3+3 Information Sessions:

All students interested in a 3+3 program (BIO to PT, BIO to PA, KIN to PT or KIN to OT) should first attend an information session to learn about the program and how to apply before scheduling an individual appointment with an advisor.

Application Workshops:

All students planning to apply for Fall 2012 admission to medical, dental, or veterinary school are encouraged to attend one of the following application workshop sessions.  Each session will review some of the basics behind preparing for and/or completing online applications, personal statement writing, the committee letter process, and interviews.  Additionally, UTSA students who are currently attending medical or dental school or will begin their first semester at medical or dental school this fall will share their experiences regarding the application process.

  • Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) – A Day in the Life:  What’s it like at optometry school? You are invited to view ICO’s web series, A Day in the Life, a 12 episode documentary style series takes viewers inside the life of a first-year ICO student. From move in- and the first exam through the rite of passage ceremony where first years receive their white clinic coats. The episodes are being released one at a time over the course of the next couple of weeks, and all of them will be housed on ICO's website.   • The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Medical School Admission Requirements (MSAR®) guide: A new online version of the Medical School Admission Requirements (MSAR®) guide which offers students access to more comprehensive information and data is now available.  To purchase the guidebook for $25 or to purchase the online version of MSAR® for $15 and for full details on product features, applicant worksheets, motivational stories and the terms and conditions for using the site, see the MSAR web site, at www.aamc.org/msar.

  • The Association of American Medical College's Careers in Medicine program offers quarterly "Choices" newsletter:  The purpose of the "Choices" newsletter is to help medical students understand specialty and residency options.  this information can also be helpful for pre-med students who want to learn more about the various options available in medicine.  To receive notifications about new issues of choices, email subscribe-choices@lists.aamc.org.

  • Podiatric Shadowing Opportunities Available:  Students interested in finding shadowing opportunities in podiatric medicine are encouraged to access The Association of American Colleges of Podiatric Medicine's DPM Mentor Network at:  www.aacpm.org/contactpod. For more information about careers in podiatric medicine, students are also encouraged to visit the American Podiatric Medical Association's new website, www.todayspodiatrist.com.  

  • MCAT Practice Test 11 now available at www.e-mcat.com:  Practice Test 11 is a full-length, online exam containing newly released MCAT items that previously appeared on the actual exam. While nothing can compare to real test conditions, taking an online practice exam under timed conditions can give students a good idea of how she or he might perform on test day. Students can use one practice test to get a baseline, create a study plan, then come back to take another test to check progress.  Practice Test 11 will provide all the same features of the current practice tests, including: same look and functionality of the actual MCAT exam, timed and untimed practice options detailed score reports with feedback on content and skill tested and item difficulty detailed solutions for all correct answers.  Practice Test 11 is available for $35 at www.e-mcat.com. And don’t forget that Practice Test 3 is free and available by entering you student e-mail address under the “Join Today for Free!” section of www.e-mcat.com.

  • The American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine (AACPMAS): AACPMAS is pleased to announce the launch of the 2011 AACPMAS Application.  Students interested in podiatric medicine can now begin their application at http://portal.aacpmas.org from www.e-aacpmas.org or from www.aacpm.org.  A note of enhancement to this year's application is the collection of official DAT scores for those schools that accept them lieu of MCAT scores.  For more information please contact AACPMAS directly.

  • Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine Pre-Professional Internship Program: The Pre-Professional Internship Program at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine (OCPM) is designed to provide insight into the many facets of podiatric medicine and the education involved with obtaining the Doctor of Podiatric Medicine Degree. The internship offers a one or two week experience in the months of January, June and July. Student interns rotate through the following departments in the Cleveland Foot and Ankle Clinic: General Medicine, Podiatric Medicine, Orthopedics/Biomechanics, and Podiatric Surgery. Interns may also observe podiatrists at the Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center. A typical day includes open clinic observations and department rotations with OCPM students and faculty clinicians. Interns will also participate in workshops on admissions, financial aid, student activities and the first-year experience as well as social events in the Cleveland area.   • Drexel University College of Medicine:  Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Professional Education Programs in Interdepartmental Medical Science (IMS), Medical Science Preparatory (MSP) and Drexel Pathway to Medical School (DPMS).  For more information on these programs or to download the application please go to:  http://www.drexelmed.edu/ims.

  • The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio’s (UTHSCSA) Bachelor of Science degree program in Respiratory Care: Many students interested in a high technology health care career choose a degree in respiratory care.  UTHSCSA is proud to be among the top programs in the country, and their graduates enjoy 100% job placement upon completion of the two-year program.
