What is an Employee Assistance Program?

An Employee Assistance Program is a confidential benefit, prepaid by your employer, that includes short term assessments, counseling, prevention/education, crisis intervention, and referrals.  Most employees experience periods in their lives that they find stressful or overwhelming.  Perhaps there are times that you may experience depression or anxiety stemming from work, family, legal, financial, or health related problems.  Deer Oaks EAP Services is here for you, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.  

 

What Services Are Covered Under the Deer Oaks EAP?

Deer Oaks offers an extensive range of behavioral health services as part of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). These may include:

  § Telephone Triage § Comprehensive Diagnostic Assessments
  § Crisis Intervention Services § Individual, Marital, Family, & Group Psychotherapies
  § Supervisor Manager Training § Clinical Coordination and Consultation Services
  § Psycho Educational In-Services § Appropriate Financial and Legal Referrals

 

What Kinds of Issues Can Be Resolved Through an EAP?

Anything that affects emotional, cognitive, behavioral, or interpersonal well-being is appropriate for accessing Deer Oaks' services. This includes issues such as:

  § Depression § Interpersonal, Familial, or Marital Conflicts
  § Anxiety § Grief: Death and Dying
  § ADHD and Conduct Problems § Substance Abuse
  § Stress Management § Caring for an Elderly Parent
  § Parent Training § Trauma: Abuse / Neglect
  § Domestic Violence § Financial, Health, or Legal Difficulties

 

Will onsite EAP counseling services remain available?

Yes! Please contact Deer Oaks at 1-866-EAP-2400 to schedule an onsite counseling appointment with an EAP counselor.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I still use Family Services Association (FSA) after 9/30/2008 or am I required to use Deer Oaks?
    Your well-being is most important to us. We encourage you to seek out and use the services you feel best meet your needs.  However, after 9/30/2008, services through FSA will no longer be free.  Effective 10/1/2008, the EAP services that will be free will be provided by Deer Oaks.

  • If I decide to stay with FSA, can I use my insurance benefits to pay for their services?
    Please contact your UTSA Benefits Representative at HR to help you through this process. 
    They can be reached at 458-4250.

  • Am I still eligible for 8 free counseling sessions through Deer Oaks?
    Yes.  You and your dependents will still be entitled to 8 free counseling sessions, per problem, per employee at no cost to you.  None of your EAP benefits will be reduced. 

  • If I use 2 sessions with our current EAP provider, does that mean I will have only 6 sessions with Deer Oaks? No.  With Deer Oaks, you will be entitled to 8 free counseling sessions, per problem, per employee.
