UTSA Announces Major Business Changes


UTSA will be converting its financial and HR systems to PeopleSoft in spring 2013.  In anticipation of the PeopleSoft implementation, the Human Resources Department is announcing two major business changes:

Standard work week:  UTSA will change its current work week (Sunday through Saturday) to Monday through Sunday effective Monday, November 26, 2012.  Employees scheduled to work on Sunday, November 25, 2012, will include their hours worked with those recorded during the previous week (Sunday, November 18 through Sunday, November 25, 2012), resulting in a one-time eight (8) day work week instead of seven (7).

The Human Resources Department will send out additional information regarding updated time sheets, available from the Payroll Department website, and electronic time sheets in an email next week.

FMLA counting method:  The federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides eligible employees with 12 work weeks of qualifying leave within a 12-month period.  Effective January 1, 2013, UTSA’s method for calculating the 12-month period will change to a “rolling” 12-month period measured backward from the date an employee first uses any FMLA leave.  This announcement fulfills the requirement to provide 60-days’ notice of the change to all employees.  During the transition period, employees taking FMLA between now and December 31, 2012 will do so under whichever method yields the greatest benefit to the employees.
