Job Progression

Guidelines
Only approved classified job families will be analyzed by HR using the Job Progression Request form.  All other positions must use the Job Reclassification  process.

Please submit completed Job Progression Request form with appropriate VP signature to the Compensation section of Human Resources.


Job Progression Defined

  • Job progression is career advancement from one level in a job family to a higher level. Example:  Advancement from an Administrative Associate I to an Administrative Associate II.  
  • Such advancement occurs as a result of an increase in the knowledge, skills, duties and responsibilities of an individual employee, not necessarily the length of time in a particular position.
  • True Progression is a win/win opportunity.  It enables the supervisor to reward an employee for mastery of job elements and the employee is recognized for the achievement, thereby increasing job satisfaction and probability of retention.   
  • Unlike performance appraisals that reward employees on an annual basis, progression can occur at any time using the Job Progression Request form.

Eligibility Factors

  • Experience in current position (title) must be at least one year.
  • Experience in current position within the department must be three months.    
  • Employee must have demonstrated mastery of the knowledge, skills, duties and responsibilities of current job.
  • Employee must have an acceptable performance level as documented through performance appraisals.  (Must be SP or above)

HR Analysis

  • Only approved job families will be analyzed by HR using the Job Progression Request form.  All other positions must use the Reclassification or Add A New Position process. 
  • A Job Progression Request form  must be completed by the supervisor and have VP approval prior to forwarding to HR. 
  • The turnaround for this process is two business days from the date received in HR.
