Summary
|
· Function: To provide for the care of experimental animals with primary
emphasis placed on minimizing experimental variables relating to animal
health and sanitation. · Scope: Responsible for the care and cleaning of equipment and
facilities along with the care and observation of the animals. |
Duties
|
· Typical: 1. Provide daily husbandry of laboratory animals to
include observation of animals, handling and restraint, feeding and watering,
changing cages/racks, and sanitizing animal quarters and equipment in
compliance with Federal regulations. 2. Operates and/or uses supplies and equipment
necessary to perform the husbandry duties. 3. Provides daily record keeping for animals, room
environments, and consumable supplies. 4. Prepares and uses
disinfectants and detergents; mixes medications according to specific
instructions; and administers measured amount of laboratory diet to a variety
of animal species. 5. Closely observes animal
behavior; applies identification on various species; obtains laboratory
samples from newly arrived animals for parasitic and bacterial analysis; and
transports animals, bulk feed and bedding material within the facility. 6. Performs minor
maintenance and repair of existing equipment. 7. Performs other duties as
assigned. · Periodic: 1. May assist in performing
necropsies and in preparing animals for surgery. |
Education
