| Course Description | This is a course on basic biological safety is open to all persons working in biological research laboratories at UTSA as well as any interested UTSA community members. It satisfies the NIH / CDC annual biosafety training requirements outlined in the Biosafety in the Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories, 4th Ed. This course includes information about the regulations and what UTSA is doing to comply; principles/ concepts of biosafety, agent classes and safety levels, procedures and equipment that prevent exposure including engineering controls and personal protective equipment; sharps precautions, and clean-up procedures, hazards and precautions for human cell culture work; biosafety level 2 (BSL-2) requirements; biological waste management issues and information about medical follow-up if exposure occurs. New Employees (including transfers) are required to attend this training prior to initial assignment to duties that place them at risk of exposure to infectious agents. Current employees working with DNA and biological agents at BSL-2 or above shall attend annually . | ||||||||
