We do recommend that you pre-write these essays and then paste them in.
- What is your eventual career goal? What do you want to do with your life? Include schooling and what you want to do afterwards. If you don't know exactly what path you want to take, list careers that you think will make you happy.
- What made you decide to pursue this career? If you have a story or anecdote that inspired you to follow a particular career path, please share it. Were you or a loved one faced with illness? Have you loved biology or building things since you were a child? Did a TV show inspire you? Did it just feel, 'Right." to you? Or...do you just not know yet...
- Why do you want to participate in the Freshman/Sophomore RISE Program and why should you be selected? Tell us what how you think this program will benefit you. What motivates you? Why it interests you. Regarding why you should be selected - don't get shy on this one. Why should you be given this opportunity? Do you think that you think like a researcher? Act like a researcher? Do you love research? Give a good answer!
- What interests you about scientific research? I'll leave this one to you...
- Describe any past research experiences: If you performed research in a High School summer program, then describe it. Or talk about science fairs, whatever. Make sure to put the sponsoring agency, who you worked with, what you did, and what you found!
- Any other information that is relevant to your application that you want to the committee to know. Have you overcome any hardships, received special recognition, won interesting contests, done something out of the ordinary? Put it here...
