The NIH-funded MBRS-RISE programs are a prestigious
and well-known research training programs designed
to increase the participation of underrepresented
minority students and researchers in biomedical
research. Both underrepresented and
disadvantaged students may participate in fsRISE.
Criteria for participation include:
MANDATORY

Full time UTSA student
-
Freshman or early in Sophomore studies.

NOT a CAP Student
-
U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
-
Majoring in Biology, Chemistry,
Physics (Biophysics interest), Computer Science
(Biomedical interest)
-
Considering Biomedical Research as
a Career
-
HS GPA of at least 3.0
-
UTSA GPA or at
least 2.7
-
Desire to pursue research as a
career
-
Commitment to complete the program
once started
AND
EITHER you are a
classified as being from a group that is
underrepresented in the sciences
OR
you
are classified as having Exceptional Financial Need.
To have this designation, your immediate household
(from which your Financial Aid is Determined) must
have the following income levels:
Total Family Income (influenced by family size)
You by yourself - $15,600 or less
You and one other - $21,000 or less
You and two others - $26,400 or less
You and three others - $31,800 or less
You and four others - $37,200 or less
You and five others - $42,600 or less
You and six others - $48,000 or less
You and seven others - $53,400 or less
NOTE: For families with more than 8 total people,
add $5,400 for each additional family member.
