Virtual Private Network

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a method of joining a private network across an existing public network by building an encrypted tunnel between the two hosts. The VPN tunnel allows you to transfer information and to access remote resources.

Faculty and staff can use the UTSA VPN to access:

  • files on your I:Drive folder from your home/personal computer
  • a more robust version of your UTSA e-mail box than Webmail
  • the DEFINE application
  • the UTSA Library network.

Before Using the UTSA VPN

Please read the VPN Recommendations page before using the VPN.

Access VPN From the Web (SSL)

No installation required. Log in using your UTSA network ID and password.

Off-campus Web VPN

On-campus Web VPN

VPN Client (download VPN software)

If the Web VPN version is not available, you may download VPN Software.

(Note: Windows Vista and Windows 7 users should use the VPN Web version only.)

Install VPN Software (download version only)

For help downloading or installing the VPN software, contact OIT Support Services (Help Desk).

You may also use the Web-based SSL VPN that does not require you to download the VPN application (see above).

VPN for Legacy Mac Operating Systems

Mac OS X 10.4 and older will not run the latest VPN client software.

Visit the VPN Downloads for Legacy Mac Operating Systems page for downloads compatible for older Mac operating systems.

VPN Configuration for Windows 2000/XP (download version only)

Extract all files from the compressed file (.zip or zipped file) to a regular Windows folder before executing the VPN client setup program (VPNclient_setup.msi).

Failure to extract all files first will result in the necessary UTSA connection profiles not installed with the VPN program. Do not run the VPN set-up program from the compressed or zipped file (even though Windows will let you).

For questions on connecting to or using the VPN, please contact OIT Support Services (Help Desk).
