SLC Offers New “Leadership Core Competencies” Workshop Series

The UTSA Student Leadership Center is rolling out a new “Leadership Core Competencies” workshop series with the residents of the Alvarez Hall Leadership & Service Floor. We are aligning the competencies with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s Core Curriculum and focusing on helping students think about leadership in a number of ways to help them successfully navigate college and the subsequent transition to professional and civic life.

The first workshop gave students a brief insight into the importance of goal-setting for personal leadership development, an introduction to each of the competencies we will be teaching, and featured two Target recruiting representatives who shared personal insights about practicing leadership as new professionals in the workplace.

This week’s workshop focused on vision work, allowing students to use creative mind-mapping techniques to connect elements of personal identity with their leadership strengths and goals. The SLC has 5 more workshops planned through the rest of the academic year. The UTSA Family Fund provided financial support for this series.

Deborah Luster student of the month August 2016

The offices of Student Life and Student Conduct and Community Standards recognizes Deborah Luster as Student Employee of the Month for August 2016.

This is the second time Deborah has been recognized as a leading student employee. One staff member commented, “Deborah brings it every day, every time!” Deborah is attentive to detail and very responsible, arriving to work on time, and completing tasks before her shift ends. We are using Student Affairs’ model of the REACH objectives to challenge our students. We congratulate Deborah on being the recipient of this award for A – Active Leadership.

Congratulations Deborah! Keep up the good work!
