The Texas Senate on Wednesday cleared the appointments of six nominees—including San Antonians Cyndi Taylor Krier and L. Lowry Mays—to the boards of the state’s top two university systems. Folks who frankly just don’t give a darn about movie music should skip "Fiesta Under the Stars: An Evening at the Movies II" at the UTSA Convocation Center. Presented by the university’s Division of Music, Saturday’s event will feature selections from classics such as "Gone With the Wind, "Ben-Hur," "Casablanca," "Beauty and the Beast. Expand UTSA. The city can benefit immensely from rapid expansion of the capacity of the University of Texas at San Antonio on the west end. The event is held in conjunction with Brain Awareness Week, which puts a spotlight on brain research. (San Antonio Express-News 4/21/01 1C)

Prompted by the notion that two sets of resources are better than one, Brooks AFB and the University of Texas at San Antonio signed a five-year agreement aimed at sharing educational tools and developing programs at both institutions. Both parties agreed to strengthen their relationship by expanding educational opportunities at UTSA and enhancing redevelopment at Brooks. (San Antonio Express-News 4/13/01 3B)

SBC Communications Inc. has donated $25,000 to the University of Texas at San Antonio’s College of Business. The funds are slated for use in the college’s Corporate Sponsor Program, which promotes the ongoing curriculum, initiates new programs and is used to recruit and retain faculty.. The opera program of the University of Texas at San Antonio has every reason to take pride in its well-sung, theatrically effective staging of Kurt Weill’s "Street Scene" over the weekend in the UTSA Recital Hall. There are more than a dozen significant singing roles, and all were filled by student voices that were at least serviceable—a sign of excellent depth in the UTSA opera program.
