A Moment with the President

Dear Friends,

This week, I was privileged to deliver the State of the University address. We celebrated our successes, reviewed plans in the works at our great institution and talked about where UTSA is headed. It’s easy to see we are well on the way to realizing our shared vision.

A record 29,000 students enrolled this fall with the number of doctoral students increasing by nearly 20 percent. We continue to hire outstanding faculty as another important step toward becoming a premier research university and helping our students succeed.

As UTSA increasingly becomes a university of first choice, more than 3,700 students now live on campus with another 5,000 living in communities surrounding the Main Campus. We see more and more students participating in the newly vibrant campus life.

As UTSA continues to expand student academic services and build new research and classroom facilities, there also is excitement about football and plans to enhance our 16 intercollegiate sports. This is the university we are becoming, and it’s a great time to be at UTSA.

I hope to see you at a special event later this month. On October 15, we will recognize Joe Straus, speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, at the 40th Anniversary Celebration President’s Scholarship and Awards Dinner.

Until next time,

Ricardo Romo
President, UTSA
