Welcome to Community Services

Here at the University of Texas at San Antonio, we are creating engaged leaders for the future of San Antonio, of Texas, and beyond.

Classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a community engaged university, UTSA is recognized for its dynamic and noteworthy community engagement programming through teaching, research, public service, volunteerism, partnerships, and economic development.

Our engaged scholarship community consists of not only faculty but also administrators, students, and staff who enthusiastically work towards capacity building for university-wide engagement opportunities, coordinating and facilitating initiatives, communicating and advocating in connecting curriculum, research, and service together to benefit the greater good locally and globally.

We have found that this engagement is mutually beneficial to our community partners and our students who gain from these activities. Our students’ perspectives are broadened, leadership skills are developed, and academic portfolios are expanded.

A sampling of some of our exciting engagement programs include: The Office of P-20 Initiatives that provides leadership to local area students to develop and complete their educational goals to be college-ready. The Institute for Economic Development that has helped over 5000 businesses open their doors and create more than 58,000 jobs for the local community. And the Mexico Center, that fosters cross boarder collaborations and study through financial assistance for student and faculty research.

For the past six years, UTSA’s commitment to community services and service-learning has also been recognized by the Corporation for National and Community Service with the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. This federal honor highlights our commitment to community service and service-learning while achieving meaningful and measureable outcomes in the communities we serve.

UTSA is on a path to becoming a Tier One University. A top tier university requires a top tier commitment to its community. We welcome you to join us on this journey of building not only a university, but a community that is top tier!
