Welcome to External Relations at The University of Texas at San Antonio, one of the most exciting universities in the country.

Today, UTSA is rapidly moving toward premier research university status while remaining committed to its original mission of providing affordable, accessible higher education to the people of Texas and beyond. There is great momentum around our 10-year strategic plan, which calls for the university to grow to 45,000 students by 2028. We also have exciting plans underway to earn National Research University Fund availability by growing our research programs while, at the same time, expanding our downtown campus into the city to create a new high-tech corridor.

By earning support for the university’s strategic destinations, External Relations is critical to UTSA’s growth. Within our departments of Development, Operations and Talent Management, Alumni Engagement, Athletic Development and University Communications and Marketing, we are telling the UTSA story while creating opportunities for donors, alumni and other supporters to be a part of the important journey toward its strategic destinations:

Mission Statement

The mission of the Division of External Relations is to support UTSA’s many instructional, research and public service programs through successful fundraising, alumni outreach and support, and communications and marketing to position the university as a premier multicultural research institution focused on student success and research excellence.


  • To increase public and private giving to UTSA through positive relationships with alumni, corporations, and other friends and organizations.
  • To establish strong branding messages in order to solidify strategic initiatives and unify branding messaging throughout the campus communications.
  • To maintain strong and productive ties with UTSA’s more than 126,000 alumni throughout the world.
