More than 600 full-time faculty teach in eight colleges in 62 undergraduate, 43 master's degree, and 18 doctoral degree programs. The diverse student body includes many first generation college students as well as older, non-traditional students. Although the majority of UTSA students come from San Antonio and the south Texas-Mexico border area, UTSA has many students from throughout the United States and an increasingly large number of international students.

UTSA invites applications and nominations for a dynamic and innovative leader to assume the position of Vice President for Student Affairs. Reporting to the President, the Vice President for Student Affairs serves three major roles: as a leader in overseeing the various student affairs components including student life, new student programs, career services, athletics, financial aid, admissions, registrar, counseling and health services, recreation, housing; as a facilitator by listening to the diverse voices on campus and fostering community through the development of rich co-curricular experiences for students; as a visionary in finding ways to increase student retention and success through technology, programs and services.

The successful candidate must have an advanced degree and 10 years of progressive responsibility working with students in a university setting; demonstrated leadership, administrative experience, including strategic planning, human resource management, fiscal oversight and facilities planning; excellence in problem solving and written, oral, and interpersonal communication and team building skills.

The successful candidate should also have an interest and enthusiasm for working with students, knowledge of current issues in higher education, and ability to work effectively within a culturally diverse community.

Preferred qualifications include a terminal degree and university level teaching experience.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. UTSA is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer; women and minorities are encouraged to apply. Applications will be considered beginning July 24, 2006. Applicants must submit a vita, a letter of interest, which addresses three major roles as outlined for this position, and five names and contact information for references. Applicants must use the UTSA's electronic submission system: www.utsajobs.com . Nominations for this position should be directed to Sonia Martinez, chair, search committee, Vice President for University Advancement, University of Texas at San Antonio, One UTSA Circle, San Antonio, Texas, 78249.
