National Night Out Unites the Roadrunner Community
The UTSA Department of Public Safety welcomed hundreds of Roadrunners to their annual National Night Out (NNO) on Tuesday, Oct. 1. UTSADPS provided students, faculty and staff an engaging opportunity to learn about crime prevention and safety resources, and how those resources help to make the university a safe place to work, learn and discover.
“Fostering partnerships and strengthening connections within the Roadrunner community is essential to creating a safe and welcoming campus,” said UTSAPD Chief of Police Stephanie Schoenborn. “National Night Out is a great opportunity to bring students, faculty and staff together with our law enforcement officers, public safety officers and other team members in a welcoming environment.”
During the event, Chief Schoenborn welcomed a variety of community partners, including Santikos, Raising Cane’s and Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, as well as such campus partners as the Student Government Association, EOS, VOICES, Campus Rec and others who came out to show support for the Roadrunner family. “Building these relationships allows us to educate the community about our campus safety resources,” said Schoenborn. “We support our community in so many great ways, including crime prevention tips, self-defense classes, victim services and campus safety escorts, all designed to enhance the campus experience for our Roadrunners.”
Attendees enjoyed booths highlighting other university services, safety information, “drunk goggles” experience and free U-locks when registering a bike. Students also enjoyed games, free paletas and music by DJ Louie. The Spirit of San Antonio (SOSA) Marching Band, UTSA Cheerleaders and Rowdy also made an appearance.
Established in 1984, National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships.
