About Us

Staff Senate works to continually improve university operations and the wellbeing of staff.

Charged by the university president and the University of Texas System Board of Regents, Staff Senate serves as an advisory body, making recommendations to the president regarding the interests and concerns of staff. Additionally, the Senate coordinates staff appreciation awards and events and provides scholarships for eligible staff pursuing degrees at the university.

The university's staff is represented by 42 elected Senators. Thirty-three of these positions are divided proportionally amongst the university's functional areas (also known as divisions) based on the number of employees from each area. The remaining nine positions are selected from Administrative & Professional (A&P) staff members from any functional area. If a member changes positions to another functional area, they may resign from Staff Senate or complete their term under the functional area they were elected to represent.
