Frequently Asked Questions

The Bold Scholars Program is a four-year program providing support, resources, and community to help students engage early in the university experience, build your network, and participate in career-focused experiential learning across your four-year course of study at UTSA. The program is designed to help foster our students' ultimate success both in the classroom and in their career.

The Bold Scholars Program is a support initiative for students who have been awarded UTSA's Bold Promise Tuition Program. While Bold Promise provides financial aid support for tuition and mandatory fees, the Bold Scholars Program provides workshops, mentoring, and community-building events to help students succeed.

UTSA Bold Promise is a tuition promise program that aims to make college more accessible and affordable to graduating High School Texans from middle- and low-income families. Qualifying students will have their tuition and mandatory fees covered 100% for up to four academic years (eight consecutive fall/spring semesters) as long as students maintain eligibility. For detailed eligibility criteria and requirements, visit the Bold Promise website.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Being an incoming first-time freshman who qualifies for and receives the Bold Promise Tuition Program.
  • Successfully completing a UTSA Housing Application and choosing to live in Chisholm Hall's triple occupancy rooms during the first year at UTSA.

Participation is optional but highly encouraged, as it offers additional support, connections, and resources to help students excel academically and personally while attending UTSA. Bold Scholar students become a bigger part of the UTSA community and have opportunities to gain skills and opportunities that set them apart from other Roadrunners. To showcase their achievements and commitment to our program and their personal growth, Bold Scholars receive a special graduation stole to wear at UTSA's commencement.

Eligible Bold Promise students will receive an invitation to their MyUTSA email to join the program by completing a UTSA Housing Application and selecting to live in a Chisholm Hall triple occupancy room. If you meet the criteria and haven't received an invitation, contact us at boldscholars@utsa.edu.

Yes, living in Chisholm Hall triple occupancy rooms during your first year is a requirement to participate in the program. Returning 2nd Year – 4th Year Bold Scholars students are allowed to live anywhere on or off-campus.

Living in Chisholm Hall allows students to connect with their Bold Scholar peers in a supportive living-learning community, making it easier to engage with program activities and build friendships. For more details regarding Chisholm Hall or the triple occupancy rooms, please refer to UTSA's Housing and Residence Life's website.
