NOVEMBER 6, 2024 — Editor’s note: The following message was sent via email from UTSA President Taylor Eighmy to all faculty, staff and students.
With a heavy heart, I’m writing to share that we’ve lost a member of our doctoral student community, likely by suicide. I know an unexpected loss like this can feel overwhelming and may impact you differently; however, please know that you are not alone, and support is available.
I know our entire community is feeling a sense of confusion and loss, especially those who knew the student best. If you or someone you know is struggling, I urge you to utilize the free well-being resources available to you 24/7.

As always, please know that the well-being of every student, staff and faculty member is of the utmost importance. I’ve said this before, but I feel very strongly that, even in the saddest of times, our community can draw strength and hope from one another.
Let’s continue to show kindness and compassion towards each other as we work through this very difficult time.
