San Antonio Bikes

Pico Bikes

In October the City of San Antonio and San Antonio Bike Share installed a new B-Cycle Bike Share Station across the street from the UTSA Downtown Campus in front of Pico de Gallo Restaurant. The City of San Antonio and San Antonio Bike Share wanted to let UTSA students, faculty, and staff know about this new amenity and also extend a limited time offer for discounted annual memberships. The regular price for students is $48 per year and for other, $60. Right now, UTSA students, faculty, and staff can use the promo code “utsa” when they sign up for annual memberships at www.sanantonio.bcycle.com for only $30.

Bikes

The City has 200 bikes at 20 locations in and around downtown. The system is designed for people to take short trips (30 minutes or less) to attend meetings, run errands, or go to lunch.

Department of Demography

The UTSA Department of Demography and Organizational Studies has now officially been renamed the Department of Demography. The new name will help potential students and faculty to immediately understand the direction of the department.

Applied Demographic Society

Applied Demography Society

The Applied Demography Society is a new student organization and is the first student-run organization on campus dedicated to bringing the campus community together for the study of demography. This organization plans on hosting professional and social events to advance their skills and build a strong community. They had their 1st Annual Tailgate on November 19th for the game against Minot State.

Small Business Development Center

The Small Business Development Center opened a new office in New Braunfels to serve entrepreneurs and small business owners in New Braunfels, Schertz, and Seguin areas. The office is funded through the economic development corporations of the cities of New Braunfels, Schertz, and Seguin through an agreement with the Center for Entrepreneurship, a non-profit corporation. The office will be managed by Sharon Miller, an experienced small business development advisor.

Downtown Campus Undergraduate Advising Center

The Downtown Campus Undergraduate Advising Center has been selected as the host for the 2012 UTSA Academic Advising Conference. This one day conference is an opportunity for advisors from UTSA and surrounding area institutions to participate in developmental workshops, to network with colleagues, and to receive up-to-date information on current advising practices. This year’s conference is scheduled for Friday, October 10, 2012 and will take place at the Downtown Campus.

New ER Advisor

Mr. Joe Towey is the new Employee Relations Advisor for the Downtown and HemisFair Park campuses. His office is located in the Frio Street Building, Room 4.548 and his extension is 3333. He will be at the Institute of Texan Cultures are on Thursdays .
