Facilities

UTSA's newest campus is located near the heart of San Antonio, immediately west of I-35 in the historic Cattleman's Square area. Bordered by Durango, Frio and Buena Vista streets -- from which the campus buildings derive their names -- the 11-acre site was acquired, in part, through a donation from Bill Miller Bar-B-Q in 1993. Dedicated in the fall of 1997, the Downtown Campus now has four academic buildings and a four-level parking facility.

Frio Street Building

Within its two wings joined via open-air walkways at the second and third levels, the Frio Street Building features a one-stop enrollment services and financial aid assistance center for students; campus dining facilities; a 150-seat computer lab; 26 classrooms; the Riklin Auditorium; UTSACard office; and administrative/faculty offices.

Designed by Humberto Saldana and Associates Inc., of San Antonio, the building was the first to be completed at the Downtown Campus. An expanse of windows and terraces on the structure's eastern side afford inspiring views of the landscaped campus green, BIll MIller Plaza and the city's distinctive skyline.

Buena Vista Street Building

Designed as a general academic structure, the Buena Vista Street Building provides 1,400 classroom seats in 25 state-of-the-art classrooms and seminar rooms.

Special features include a 300-seat instructional theater, university bookstore and dedicated laboratories for science, education, language, music and psychology. The facility also houses a 19,000-square-foot library; student health services; testing services; disability services; and a thermal energy plant.

Durango Building

Completed in 2001, the third academic building at the Downtown Campus is home to the Tomas Rivera Center for Student Success; a student activities center; classrooms; science and computer laboratories; an art gallery; and administrative/faculty offices.

Monterey Building

Acquired in 2005, this fourth academic building, located at 301 South Frio Street, currently houses various university programs including the College of Architecture.
