New Benefits Enhancement for Graduate Students
UT System Office of Employee Benefits announced effective September 1, 2015 that the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is acceptable coverage for the purpose of waiving UT Select Medical coverage. This change is considered a qualified status change due to the significant change in coverage or cost of other benefit plans.
Consequently, graduate students who are benefits eligible (assigned at 50% FTE and working at least 4 ½ months or more) will be able to make changes to benefits coverage consistent with this policy change. Enrollment in the Student Health Insurance Plan will qualify you to waive the UT Select Medical Plan and be eligible for premium sharing of up to $141.74, which can be used to purchase dental, vision and AD&D coverage.
- To make any changes to your benefits, you must complete the Insurance Enrollment Form, Waiver of Medical Insurance, attach proof of Student Health Insurance and submit all documents on or before Friday, October 2, 2015. Otherwise, your changes cannot be made until the next Annual Enrollment in July 2016, to be effective the following September 1, 2016.
- Please return all documents to the Office of Human Resources, Attention Benefits (NPB 4.102) via email firstname.lastname@example.org or fax to 210.458.7890.
We encourage you to review all your medical plan options (Student Health Insurance Plan or UT Select Medical Plan) very carefully before making a decision. If you have any questions about the Student Health Insurance Plan, please contact the Academic HealthPlan representative 855.247.2273.
