- Josh Hurtado received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Laboratory Animal Resource Center (LARC) team for his continued commitment to exceptional customer service to the Roadrunner community.
- Elisabeth Cuadros was selected to participate in the 2025-2026 NACUBO Emerging Leaders Program to help rising leaders in higher education strengthen their strategic thinking, broaden their understanding of business operations within universities and build leadership skills to navigate complex institutional challenges.
- Ryne Medina, Ashly Harris and Ashley Garcia organized and hosted the UT System Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) Conference in October 2025.
- Ricardo Escobar II earned the designation of Certified Auxiliary Services Professional (CASP) from the National Association of College Auxiliary Services (NACAS). Completion of this process demonstrates an exceptional level of knowledge in areas including leadership, management, student development, communication and auxiliary operational areas.
- Amanda Swaney earned her Certified Clery Compliance Officer (CCO) credential in October 2025, equipping her with deep knowledge of Clery Act compliance and positioning her as a credential-level leader.
- Suzanne Patrick presented “BIT: Difficult Cases and Best Practices” at the UT System BIT Conference with colleagues from The University of Texas at El Paso and the University of the Incarnate Word.
- Detective Lauren Duff received first place in the individual pistol competition with iron sights at the Chancellor’s Trophy Pistol Match.
- Liz Rockstroh and Angel Espinoza co-presented “Unifying Assessment Plans Across Administrative Units: Leveraging Assessment Champions and Power BI for Data Visualization” at the TxAHEA (Texas Association for Higher Education Assessment) conference in October 2025.
- Robert Ramires has been selected to participate in the Supply Chain Alliance FY26 Emerging Leader Program. This program is designed to identify and develop high-potential professionals who demonstrate strong leadership qualities and a commitment to advancing supply chain excellence.
- Brian Lopez , Cory Garcia , Sgt. Eric Weber and Jeff Miller were elected as Staff Senators. Angel Espinoza , Diane Gomez , Elizabeth Raymond , John Swisher and Victoria Downing are continuing their two-year Staff Senate terms representing Business Affairs.
- Bruce Williams earned his Certified Texas Contract Developer (CTCD) certification through the State of Texas, focusing on state purchasing laws, procurement processes, risk mitigation and best practices for creating compliant, effective contracts that support organizational goals.
- Sofia Requejado was accepted into UT San Antonio’s MBA program in October. This exciting milestone in her professional journey reflects her strong commitment to continued growth and advancement.

Department Awards & Certifications

- On Nov. 15, the UTSA Police Department received their fifth reaccreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The reaccreditation award is met through compliance with over 450 law enforcement standards. The commissioners found that Public Safety met the standards of being reaccredited through CALEA.
- The university successfully converted the majority of staff from positive time reporting to exception-based time reporting. This change will make reporting easier for users and reduce cleanup time for Payroll, People Excellence, and Business Service Center staff.
- Campus Services and Dining announced that the Roadrunner Café earned the ¡Por Vida! Gold Certification. This prestigious recognition from the City of San Antonio Metropolitan Health District honors dining locations that meet rigorous standards for nutrition, sanitation, sustainability and community development.
- The first Business Affairs cross-functional cohort (summer) demonstrated their commitment to operational excellence by earning Lean Six Sigma certifications through the Management and Strategy Institute (MSI), equipping staff with advanced skills to drive process improvements and enhance efficiency across the organization:
- Yellow Belt: Angel Espinoza
- Green Belt: Alyssa Herrera, Frank Grijalva, Jason Dempsey, Leticia Torres and Robert Ramirez

- The second cohort (fall), continues advancements with Lean Six Sigma certifications:

- Dining's Just4U program was featured in the NACUFS Magazine (winter edition).
Enhancing Our Campuses

- Energy and Sustainability launched a successful Watt Watchers student-lead program to help conserve energy around campus. Fiscal year 2025 ended $2.1M under the projected utility budget, with the university receiving an incentive check of more than $54,000 from CPS Energy for the summer demand response.
- The Roadrunner Café celebrated its grand reopening on Aug. 21 with a fully renovated entrance, a modernized RowdyMart and new dining options, reflecting the university's commitment to convenience, quality and an exceptional campus dining experience.
- Cory Garcia facilitated a Postvention training exercise in October, bringing together university partners to strengthen coordination and communication following a campus crisis. The exercise helped clarify team roles, identify resource needs and enhance the university's readiness to support students, faculty and staff through long-term recovery efforts.
- Public Safety and Business Continuity and Emergency Management successfully promoted five key campus safety resources during September’s National Preparedness Month.
- The opening of One Riverwalk Place marked a major step in UT San Antonio's efforts to expand career-engaged learning by relocating programs and services downtown, with the School of Architecture and Planning now housed in the 18-story building alongside over 900 students, faculty and staff.
- The construction of the $131 million San Pedro II project continued this fall, with an anticipated final completion in January 2026.
- Brenan Lawn North and South are now complete and part of the university’s placemaking initiative to create dynamic, welcoming environments that enhance campus life, including a grilling area and flex event stage.
- The Brennan Avenue project, funded by a $11.7 million TxDOT grant, was designed this summer to enhance Main Campus bike and pedestrian paths, with construction set to begin in summer 2026.
- November marked the completion of Blanco Hall. The university's newest residence hall will open in January, providing housing for nearly 600 first-year and sophomore students in a modern living-learning community.
- The intersection at Bauerle Road and East Campus Drive changed from a four-way stop to a two-way stop with a light-up pedestrian crosswalk, enhancing traffic flow for both pedestrians and vehicles.
- The 52,681-square-foot Volleyball/Basketball Training Facility is on track to open in fall 2026.
- Real Estate and Property Management completed Phase Two of the Southwest Campus improvements project, with upgrades to the Texas Historic Landmark.
- The Integration Management Office launched the Functional Integration process as a critical step in advancing UT San Antonio’s merger efforts.
- The District Planning initiative reached a key milestone with the release of the District Planning report, outlining a strategic roadmap to support campus growth and infrastructure development based on extensive stakeholder feedback.
- In November, Campus Services conducted a comprehensive Parking and Mobility Assessment, engaging 12 focus groups across all campuses and distributing an online survey that garnered nearly 3,700 responses. The assessment is being managed by Walker Consultants, and the final report is expected to be available for review in late January 2026.
Service to the University Community

- PSO Supervisor Dilworth selflessly dedicated his personal time and energy to supporting the first responders involved in the recovery efforts after the flooding in Kerrville and Kerr County.
- Administrative Services hosted a July school supply drive at their summer Town Hall to help students in campus housing prepare for the new academic year, reinforcing the commitment to student success and community engagement.
- Sgt. Manny Gutierrez is an active member of our Peer Support Team, providing support not only to our department, but supporting a colleague through the loss of a spouse and coordinating funeral services with SAPD to provide honors. His compassion reflects the highest standards of empathy and care which will be remembered by everyone impacted by the loss of Joe Wilson.
- Administrative Services hosted a November food drive during their First Friday Lunch, collecting 24 pounds of food and 134 non-food items for the Roadrunner Pantry. Their November First Friday lunch included the President’s Office, Academic Affairs and Advancement.
- Campus Services ran the Swipe Out Hunger fall campaign, collecting 1,146 donations. Of these, 573 were donated by student meal plan holders, with Aramark matching the donations. This campaign supports student wellness for those experiencing food insecurity, with meals distributed through the Roadrunner Pantry’s Meal Share program.
- Public Safety partnered with Toys for Tots to collect toys for families in the San Antonio community.
- Administration & Operations participated in the Adopt-A-Family program through the Student Involvement Center and the Family Services Association to support families with holiday gifts.

Sincerest thanks to Veronica Salazar, Senior Executive Vice President for Enterprise Development and Transformation, who retires on Dec. 31 after guiding the university’s strategic growth and downtown expansion since 2019.
