Division Integration Update: Progress, Priorities and What’s Ahead

March 2, 2026

The following message was sent from Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Andrea Marks to employees in Business Affairs on the Academic Campus and in the operational units on the Health Campus on Mar. 2, 2026.

In January, we hosted a virtual town hall for our new division, bringing together team members in the operational units at the health campus and in Business Affairs at the academic campus.

During the town hall, I shared the new leadership structure for our integrated division, which is effective as of March 1. Over the last month, leaders from across the units within our division have been meeting with their teams, listening and learning more about operations across our campuses. I have also had the opportunity to share these leadership updates with President’s Cabinet, the University Leadership Council on the academic campus and the Executive Committee on the health campus in order to ensure our institutional leaders understand the structure for our new division.

Integration Update

Today I’m excited to share more about what you can expect as we continue the important work of integrating our division. At this time, all of our area leaders have started working closely with the Integration Management Office (IMO) to begin initial on-boarding, orientation and discovery. Throughout this process, our leaders will continue their emphasis on listening and learning as they gain a strong foundation of understanding related to personnel, team culture, campus budgets and more.

I want to emphasize that this process will look different for each unit across our division. Some of our smaller teams may identify areas of opportunity for integration earlier, while other areas may focus on stabilizing operations or prioritizing key projects that are already in progress. It is important that we all focus on sustaining the incredible growth that both institutions have experienced in recent years and supporting institutional strategic initiatives in flight while also beginning to look towards bringing together our new division.

Throughout it all, I know that our leaders are committed to getting to know our incredible employees. I want to reassure all of our team members that decisions about integration will be thoughtfully made with involvement from leadership on both campuses. As emphasized in our Workforce Strategies Task Force, our highest priority remains supporting our talented teams. During this time of transition, we will do all that we can to create a welcoming and positive environment for our new division, honoring the legacies of both campuses as we build a new team together.

Future Communication

I will continue to share updates with you as our integration efforts proceed, and you will also start hearing additional messaging from leaders within your respective units. To support cascading communication efforts, later this month I am gathering an extended leadership team together in person with nearly 80 leaders from across our division to connect, learn and begin collaborating more effectively. This group includes near equal representation from the academic and health campuses and will provide an essential avenue for me to better understand how we can support our employees and our university moving forward.

This remains an incredibly exciting time as we bring together our new division in a thoughtful way. As announced in the town hall, we are continuing to focus on developing a new divisional name that reflects the excellent services and support that we provide both to the university and the larger San Antonio community. I look forward to sharing more updates with you in the near future.

Thank you for your continued service, dedication and commitment to our world-class university!
