Youth Art Studios are a wonderful opportunity for young artists to get direct instruction from one of our artist-instructors. These tuition-based classes are offered in a variety of media for ages 5 – 18 and vary in length from 4 –8 sessions. Students work on projects throughout the week as they delve into art topics, explore different media, and new ways of making. Homeschool classes are also available..
Class enrollment is limited to 10 to 15 students per class guaranteeing one-on-one instruction and allowing the artist-instructor to get to know students and their work. Please review registration guidelines and policies prior to registering.
Student release form should be completed and sent to communityart@utsa.edu. Those registering online will be prompted to fill out the form after completing the student registration. NOTE: All forms must be completed prior to the start of the first class.

Celebrate transformation through dance! Inspired by spring, growth, and metamorphosis, movers will explore how our bodies and the world around us shift, evolve, and bloom - from caterpillar to butterfly, seed to flower, or idea to action.
Discover the art and joy of making paper in this studio art class geared towards young art makers. This papermaking is a hands-on art workshop where students will learn to create unique, handmade paper from recycled materials like paper scraps and fabric. Students can add special touches to their paper by adding a variety of materials to create their own style of decorative art.
Let’s celebrate Spring in this Plein Air class for young artists! Join us to learn more about the careful observation and outdoor artmaking inspired by nature. Students will plunge into painting and oil pastel drawing in our beautiful outdoor gardens.
Step into the poetry of movement! Participants will use dance, rhythm, and imagination to turn words, feelings, and stories into living, moving art. In this four-session series, students will explore how movement can embody change - from caterpillar to butterfly, seed to flower, or idea to action.
Spring break is more than a time out from school—it’s an opportunity for teens to engage, create, and connect through art. Join our Community Art Spring Break Camp, where students ages 10-18 will dive into hands-on visual arts, creative choreography, and explore how art can strengthen communities.
Fundamental hand building skills and techniques will be covered including pinch pots, coil building, and slab construction with a focus on fun, artful, and utilitarian forms as well as surface techniques to add decorative elements to make the work truly one-of-a-kind. The class will work in low-fire clay. Class tuition includes clay for students.
See the world in new colors through this hands-on course experimenting with light and color relationships. We will practice techniques for creating vibrant images with oil pastels, changing how we approach color in art, no matter the medium.
Rhythm is a universal language. Get ready to move, clap, and stomp your way into rhythm! Groove Lab is a high-energy, joy-filled class where dancers become their own instruments through body percussion, call-and-response, and creative choreography. Together, we’ll explore how rhythm connects us, energizes us, and builds community through movement and sound. Students will explore musicality, coordination, and collaboration through body percussion and dynamic movement sequences, learning how rhythm can build community and spark joy.
Designed for budding artists, these classes explore various mediums, techniques, and styles to help teens express their unique vision. Guided by experienced instructors, participants build confidence, refine their skills, and connect with peers who share a passion for art.
This program is for middle school students in 6th-8th grade, providing the young artist an opportunity to develop their portfolio in a semester-long program. Students are also involved in various community service-learning opportunities throughout their time in the program. Students meet once a week on Fridays from 4:30–6:30pm, with some weekend events.
The program provides the young artist, in 9th-12th grade, an opportunity to develop their portfolio and gain college credit by committing to an academic year-long program for high school students. Students are also involved in various community service-learning opportunities throughout their time in the program, which culminates in an End-of-Year exhibition.
