Office of the President

Message From The President - March 2017

Dear Friends,

As one of UTSA's closest supporters, you have probably felt a sense of uncertainty over the past few weeks with the transition in university leadership. I understand how challenging this time has been, especially for a university known for its stability and focus.

At moments like this, it is important to remember that UTSA's mission and vision transcends any one of us, individually. Its culture of success is the result of many years of hard work and investment by the community, by faculty and staff, and by exceptional students.

During my 14 years as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Texas System, I had many opportunities to work with UTSA. I became familiar with its accomplishments and drive for excellence. But it wasn't until I arrived on campus a few weeks ago that I saw firsthand what a truly exceptional university you have here in San Antonio.

UTSA is an immense source of community pride. It is recognized as the nation's leader in cybersecurity. Its research in brain health and cancer is leading to new discoveries and creating new hope. It is producing leaders, entrepreneurs, educators, artists and policy makers who are enriching communities and laying pathways for future generations.

Student success is at the heart of everything we do, and this mission will not change.

While my service as interim president will last only a few months, I will use my time here to help advance the university and the city I have so quickly come to love. But I need your help. Now more than ever, keep supporting UTSA. Keep advocating for our students. They are counting on us.

Working together, we will build on UTSA's many successes and continue taking bold steps that will bring us ever closer to Tier One. I am so honored to have the opportunity to serve you.

Sincerely,

Pedro Reyes
President Ad Interim
