Get Tested

Roadrunners have numerous options to get tested for COVID-19, including on-campus through Student Health Services and Livingston Med Lab, or off-campus at a variety of accessible testing sites throughout Bexar County. Testing is free of charge at many locations.

If you have been tested for COVID-19, or have had close contact with a positive COVID-19 case, remember to report your test/exposure via the COVID-19 Self-Reporting Tool.

UTSA partners with Livingston Med Lab to offer testing to all students, faculty and staff. Results are typically received within 24 hours.

Appointments and Walk-ins

In order to verify insurance or CARES Act eligibility, faculty, staff and students are strongly encouraged to register 24 hours in advance for for on-site testing at the H-E-B Student Union. Walk-ins are accepted based on availability. Be sure to bring your driver’s license or valid photo ID.

Results are available via an online patient portal as early as 24-48 hours after testing. Patient portal details are provided at the testing site.

Insurance and Payment

Livingston Med Lab will bill the patient’s insurance (if eligible) or, for uninsured patients, the CARES Act. For those with eligible insurance or who qualify for the CARES Act, there will be no cost to the patient. When registering online for an appointment, select “Pay Later” to allow Livingston Lab time to verify insurance or CARES Act eligibility prior to your appointment.

Livingston Med Lab FAQs

Livingston Med Lab administers a PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) test for COVID-19. The test can tell whether someone has the virus very early on, even if they don’t have symptoms. This test is only for the COVID-19 virus. It will not detect the presence of any other viruses or diseases. Please note that this test only detects the presence or absence of the virus at the time it is administered. It is possible to have a negative test and later contract the virus.

During the test, a technician will insert a special cotton swab in both sides of your nose and move it around for about 15 seconds. It won’t hurt, but it might be uncomfortable. The technician sends the swab to a lab to test the material from inside your nose.

If your test is negative, the results will be shared with you and Student Health Services (for students) or Occupational Health (for faculty and staff). If your test is positive, your name will also be forwarded to San Antonio Metro Health, as required by health officials. UTSA will assist Metro Health with contact tracing.

Livingston Med Lab will bill the patient’s insurance or, for uninsured patients, the CARES Act. During registration, patients will be asked to provide insurance information. Livingston Lab accepts commercial Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance, Medicare, Medicaid and Tricare. For uninsured UTSA students, faculty and staff, the Lab will bill the CARES ACT. All other individuals will be charged $78 per test, payable with credit card at the time of online registration or with cash or credit card at the time of service for walk-in participants. Those undergoing testing will be provided with a receipt at the time of service that can be presented to their insurance for reimbursement.

 

 

Student Health Services provides on-campus PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) nasal swab self-administered testing. The cost of the test is billed to the student’s health insurance plan or to the CARES Act if uninsured. To be eligible for this test, you must:

  • Be a current UTSA student
  • Exhibit COVID-19 symptoms
  • Complete a telemedicine evaluation with Student Health Services

Results are typically received within one to three days.

For weekend assistance, contact the COVID Nursing Hotline at 210-450-8000. Nurses are available between 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. If needed, nurses will schedule testing for Monday.

The COVID-19 Proactive Testing Program resumes Monday, January 11. This volunary program is available for UTSA Housing students residing in Laurel and Chaparral Villages.
