As part of our community-wide shared responsibility to prevent the spread of COVID-19, UTSA discourages non-affiliated visitors to campus, particularly for unscheduled and unsupervised visits.
This includes nonessential visitors, volunteers, and activities that involve external groups or organizations coming to campus.
Those needing to connect with someone at UTSA, are encouraged to consider virtual meetings first before coming to campus. All public-serving offices will be open with limited staffing, but will also be available virtually during business hours during the fall semester.
Requirements for Campus Visitors
All campus visitors must comply with the following:
- Before arriving on campus, complete a Health Self-Assessment to check for symptoms
- While on campus, wear a face covering (medical or non-medical grade) that fully covers the nose and mouth when in public and common spaces. Visitors are encouraged to bring a back-up mask in case the primary one breaks or is compromised.
In the event a campus visitor is not in compliance with our face covering policy, the university will engage in the Ask, Offer, Leave and Report method.
Contractors: Contractors should contact and work with their university point of contact to adhere to existing guidelines and follow the checklist provided.
Lab Visits / Outside Researchers: Collaborative research visits with outside research partners should be conducted virtually whenever possible. If an in-person, on-campus visit is required, schedule and notify the Principal Investigator of the lab in advance and maintain the documentation of the visit for three weeks for purposes of possible contact tracing.
Families and guest(s) of students living on campus: After scheduled move-in, campus visits are discouraged to ensure the safety of students residing on campus. For more information, visit Housing & Residence Life.
After a Suspected or Confirmed Case of COVID-19
Those recovering from a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 are discouraged from visiting campus. If an in-person visit is necessary, recovering individuals must meet the following criteria before coming to campus:
- At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared or, for a person without symptoms, since the COVID-19 test was performed;
- Have had improvement in symptoms; and
- At least 1 day (24 hours) has passed since recovery (resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications). Retesting after having a positive COVID-19 test as the isolation or quarantine period is ending is not recommended.
Individuals with known close contact to a person who is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19 may not visit campus until the end of the 14-day self-quarantine period, initiated on the last date of exposure.
