Meet Matthew May, construction inspector with the Real Estate and Property Management (RPM) Inspections and Plan Review team.

With over 25 years of experience, Matthew plays a critical role in every phase of UTSA’s construction projects, from initial design to project completion. His expertise ensures that the buildings, spaces and infrastructure that make up the university’s growing campus are built to the highest standards, all while contributing to the student experience.

For Matthew, no two days are alike. A typical day at work often finds him out in the field, inspecting construction sites, reviewing building plans and ensuring projects stay on track. His role is hands-on, and he thrives on the variety and challenges that come with overseeing construction projects at different stages of development. Matthew’s work directly impacts students and faculty, as the spaces he helps build and improve become essential parts of their daily lives.

One of the aspects Matthew values most about his work is the recognition of how it impacts the university’s students. “I feel a sense of accomplishment after building,” says Matthew. “The projects have a positive affect on student experience by enhancing the campus environment.”

Matthew has been involved in key projects like San Pedro I and the Park West Fieldhouse, both of which have helped to provide modern, functional spaces that serve the Roadrunner community. His thorough inspections and attention to detail are integral to the university’s efforts to create and maintain a dynamic and innovative campus.

Outside of work, Matthew enjoys spending time with his family, including “entertaining my 3-year old granddaughter!” he says. Matthew also enjoys football, especially attending UTSA football games, where he cheers on the Roadrunners!
