Congratulations to Veronica Salazar on her expanded role!


UTSA’s momentum of becoming a university of the future in the city of the future continues to advance us to new heights. With this evolution comes an opportune time to evaluate roles that align clearly with our institutional plans for growing enrollment, further developing our five campuses, leading capital projects and city placemaking, and enhancing and diversifying our streams of revenue.  

As we continue to work together to reimagine the future of UTSA, it is with great excitement that I share Senior Vice President of Business Affairs Veronica Salazar will take on an expanded role for her division with the new title of Senior Vice President for Business Affairs and Chief Enterprise Development Officer. 

Since joining UTSA in January 2019, Veronica has been instrumental in advancing the university’s strategic growth through implementing the IRM budget model, focusing on long-range financial planning and building key partnerships to support UTSA’s growth. During her tenure, she’s led new construction designed to support student success including Guadalupe Hall, the Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence, the Science and Engineering Building and San Pedro I. Presently, her efforts continue as we plan to break ground on Blanco Hall and San Pedro II this fall.

Veronica is also deeply connected to key partners in San Antonio, serving on the United Way Advisory Council and as the United Way Public Sector Division Chair, as well as treasurer for Centro San Antonio. In 2021, she was recognized with a Women’s Leadership Award from the San Antonio Business Journal for her commitment to advancing UTSA’s vision for the future as an exemplar of student success and research excellence.  

In her new capacity, Veronica will continue to lead the division of Business Affairs while focusing on the use of real estate. This work will encompass expanding innovative strategic partnerships, diversifying revenue streams, accelerating collaborative opportunities through various non-profit and private organizations and developing innovation zones supporting enterprise programs for entrepreneurship. In addition, she will collaborate with faculty, staff and students on downtown development projects, internships and experiential learning opportunities, as well as lead engagement opportunities around collaborative development in the downtown district.  

I know I speak for our entire Roadrunner community when I share my deep appreciation for Veronica’s ongoing leadership in overseeing our university’s finances and operations, and look forward to her growing her role and leading Business Affairs in this new capacity.  

To coincide with her expanded role, the Business Affairs division is also reorganizing its structure to better support UTSA’s strategic goals and streamline services for the entire campus community. Importantly, I’d like to emphasize that there are no planned staffing reductions as a result of these structural changes. These changes will assist the division in providing even more exceptional service to our faculty, staff, students and university partners. Again, I would like to express my deep gratitude for Veronica and the entire Business Affairs team. I am confident these organizational updates align with our strategic vision and will serve us well as we work towards the future together.
