Student Staff Focus on Career Readiness

August 16, 2021

As the departments within Student Affairs prepare for the fall semester, areas are focused on student staff training. Student Affairs plans to employ over 400 student staff this fall in many of our departments including Campus Recreation, Student Union, Student Activities, and more. Student staff serve a critical role in providing customer service and peer support to enrolled students. Fall training will take place both virtually and when possible, within small groups in-person. Student staff will receive training related to Bystander Intervention, learn to leverage their strengths through True Colors, and learn their responsibilities through Title IX training. Additionally, a major focus on training will be on marketable leadership skills. A partnership with the Student Leadership Academy offered by Leadership and Volunteer Services provides student staff with critical training in skills such as organizational communication, team management, event planning, and cross-cultural understanding.

Student Affairs’ commitment to student staff development aligns with the Provost’s focus on Career Engaged Learning. Working on campus provides an experiential learning opportunity for UTSA students as they prepare for their careers. Any students interested in working on campus should visit Handshake to learn more about available jobs.
