Leadership UTSA Program Overview

Overview

The Leadership UTSA program is designed to develop the knowledge and skills of faculty and staff — to build leaders to serve UTSA and higher education, and to use their new understanding of leadership principles in their current position.

This initiative — to provide personal and professional development to promising staff and faculty leaders — began as a collaboration between the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs. Participants are nominated by their divisional vice president to participate in this yearlong program.

Foundational Principle

We believe that, no matter their position at UTSA, everyone at the university can be a leader. Through this program, selected participants learn what leadership entails and how they personally can contribute to achieving our vision to become a premier research university. The primary requirement is that participants have a genuine interest in serving UTSA and using their leadership skills to build relationships for the advancement of our higher education mission.

Program Structure

Through a series of daylong workshops, a mentorship program and outside readings, participants will gain a better understanding of contemporary leadership theory and practices. In addition, they will obtain a better understanding of how each vice presidential area at UTSA functions independently and collectively.

UTSA Strategic Plan Linkage

Leadership UTSA is an example of how we are actively living the UTSA Strategic Plan. This program reflects our commitment to developing the next generation of leadership—at all levels across the university.
