UTSA is recognizing and celebrating Asian, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month with events in April and May. Originated by the U.S. Congress in 1977, AAPI Heritage Month is celebrated nationally in May. UTSA begins honoring AAPI month in April, allowing the campus community an opportunity to participate in a month’s worth of celebrations prior to the end of the spring semester.

The Multicultural Student Center for Equity and Justice (MSCEJ) is joining with other departments to lead programming throughout the month. Events will encourage learning more about the vast AAPI community, and celebrate and recognize the impact of the AAPI community globally and on the UTSA campus.

Throughout April, origami crafting stations will be available in the Multicultural Student Lounge.

The Racial Justice Book Club at UTSA will celebrate the month by reading Parachutes by Kelly Yang.

Wednesday, April 20

Asian Fanfare
1 p.m., Paseo Principal (near Student Union)

This event features UTSA student organizations that focus on AAPI identities and showcases cultural dances, songs and other performances.

Saturday, April 23

Alpha Sigma Rho Annual Stroll and Performance Competition
6 p.m., Main Building Auditorium (MB 0.104)

Fraternity | Sorority Life organizations compete in a stroll and performance round. The event also includes performances from special guests.
