Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April 4, 2022
Office of the President

Dear Roadrunners,

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) and an opportune time to reaffirm UTSA's zero-tolerance environment for sexual violence.

Building on the progress of our Initiative on Preventing Sexual Assault and Misconduct, we'd like to share important information regarding relevant campus services and upcoming opportunities for advocacy, prevention education, and getting involved in this vital awareness effort.

Programming

Every April, UTSA mounts a Sexual Assault Awareness Month campaign with a wide variety of events. This year's theme is We Create Safe Spaces and features opportunities for Roadrunners to learn more about UTSA's culture of responsibility, discover support services, and get involved on campus. We want you to feel empowered to support and believe survivors, promote healthy relationships and build a safer Roadrunner community.

Share Your Support on Social Media

This year, the PEACE Center is hosting a social media campaign to increase awareness of supporting survivors around the theme "Start by believing." Visit the PEACE Center Campaign & Events page to learn how you can make your pledge through social media.

Green Dot Bystander Intervention Training

Green Dot is an anti-violence, bystander intervention program that engages witnesses to interrupt potentially high-risk situations to promote a culture of respect. Empower yourself to use your voice and take action—reserve your spot for a Green Dot Training on April 6 or April 20 on Rowdylink.

Advocacy Services in the PEACE Center

The PEACE Center provides confidential advocacy services to all Roadrunners who have experienced issues related to sexual assault, intimate partner/domestic violence, stalking, or other sexual misconduct. PEACE Center Advocates provide consultations on reporting options and support to those navigating institutional and/or community processes. Advocates address the physical, emotional, and academic needs of survivors to help them heal and prevent further violence. To learn more about these confidential services, visit the PEACE Center's Advocacy Services page.

How to Report and Find Support

Based on your feedback in our recent Student Experience Survey, we want you to be aware of your options for reporting sexual violence and instances of misconduct. We encourage survivors to report and seek immediate support so that we can work together to keep the experience from impeding their goals. For steps and tools to report and find support, visit the Report It page.

As a campus community, we have made significant progress in raising awareness, improving transparency, and implementing critical prevention and remediation measures against sexual violence and misconduct. And while this progress is important, we still have more to do. Together, we will continue to strive to be a national model for preventing sexual violence. This community and our Roadrunners deserve nothing less.

With appreciation,
