January was a month of celebration as we kicked off the new year. Throughout last month I enjoyed connecting with you at our Town Hall, participating in the first Leadership Spotlight series, and celebrating our honored retirees.
This month, we will focus on our student employees at our second annual Student Employee and Intern Lunch. Invitations have been sent to student employees and their supervisors, and I hope you will join us for this meaningful opportunity to connect and learn from one other.

Leadership Spotlight on Business Affairs: Administration & Operations
Our newly launched leadership series will continue with a presentation on Administration & Operations. Mary Hernandez will share an inside look at the initiatives that will position UTSA to be an innovative place to work, lead and discover. Secure Your Spot for the Corporate Cup
Are you interested in some fun competition—such as pickleball, dodgeball, relay races, basketball and more—to support a great cause? Join Team UTSA in this year’s Corporate Cup! Events and activities take place throughout the spring, concluding with the main event June 1 at UIW. Employees interested in participating or volunteering for the Corporate Cup must take the Team UTSA Interest Survey by March 1, 2024.
Floor Captain Program
Risk & Emergency Management needs faculty and staff from each area to help keep UTSA safe by participating in the Floor Captain Program. Supervisors, please ensure you have identified a Floor Captain on your team who can support their respective work areas on campus. Then, use this survey to submit their name to the program. New Assistant Vice President for Budget and Financial Planning
Phranses Williams has joined Financial Affairs as the new assistant vice president for Budget and Financial Planning. She will provide comprehensive support for university budget matters, financial planning, transactional oversight and the legislative appropriation request, and will work closely with campus leadership to support budget development and strategic resource allocation. Phranses holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Notre Dame, and brings a wealth of experience and success in financial management to UTSA. Welcome, Phranses!

Public Safety’s refreshed website features user-friendly navigation and expanded information on services and resources for the Roadrunner community. This Month in Wellness: Join the Heart Walk Feb. 8
February is American Heart Month! UTSA Wellness is hosting a series of interactive events, including the Heart Walk on Feb. 8. To participate, meet at the North Paseo Building breezeway at 9:45 a.m. for check-in, followed by a 10-minute walk at 10 a.m. Can’t attend in person? Take your own 10-minute walk at 10 a.m. from wherever you are and post your photos on Instagram! Tag @rowdynewu and use the hashtags #utheartwalk and #utsaheartwalk. Participants will have a chance to win a UTSA Wellness swag bag!
