Conversations on Science & Art

July 12 at South Texas Research Facility

Mark your calendar for Conversations on Science and Art on Thursday, July 12, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and The UTSA Art Collection will host the opening reception for an innovative new exhibit in the lobby of the South Texas Research Facility, 8403 Floyd Curl Dr., San Antonio, TX 78229.

Art specialist and UTSA Art Collection Curator Arturo Infante Almeida will exhibit the work of Retired Air Force Master Sargent Cody Vance. Vance was recognized by the Department of Defense as Military Graphic Artist of the Year in 2007, 2008, and 2009. His background and experience, particularly his time in the military, provides a unique vantage point of the nexus of art and science.

“Cody is a very talented artist, and we really value the chance to showcase one of San Antonio’s own,” said Almeida. The exhibit, which runs through Friday, August 17, 2018, features sculptures and paintings from Vance’s private collection.CodyVance

UT Health Research hosts Andrea Giuffrida, Ph.D., Vice President for Research, and Jennifer Sharpe Potter, Ph.D., MPH are bringing together scientists, clinicians, trainees and residents for this discussion of science and art. The program is designed to foster dialog about the crossroads between art and science.

“There is an art to science, and a science in art; the two are not enemies, but different aspects of the whole.” Isaac Asimov
