Business Affairs Shares Strategies for Collaborative Leadership at SACUBO

Recently, UTSA Business Affairs leadership presented at the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers (SACUBO) 2024 Fall Workshop. With a seasonal theme of “haunted campuses,” this three-day workshop invited attendees to learn how to navigate challenges in higher education through informative talks and interactive exercises.
The Business Affairs presentation—Haunted Harmony: Navigating the challenges of building a collaborative leadership team through cultivating connection—focused on team building and the importance of developing a workplace culture that rewards change, creativity and communication. The team shared their keys to leadership success by shining a spotlight on the growth of individual leaders. They also discussed their journey to create a supportive workplace culture.
Presenters included Executive Vice President Veronica Salazar, Chief of Police Stephanie Schoenborn, Senior Associate Vice President for Financial Affairs and Chief Financial Officer Sheri Hardison, and Chief of Staff and Assistant Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Communications Liz Rockstroh.
Participants were encouraged to envision how implementing the strategies discussed in the presentation could support the continued growth of their own leadership teams. For Business Affairs, which oversees many essential functions that support daily university operations, effective communication and collaboration is essential for strong leadership. Similarly, team building and teamwork are firmly rooted in the university’s strategic destination to be an innovative place to work, learn and discover.
With representation from more than 2,100 colleges and universities nationally, SACUBO helps to connect higher education professionals. The organization’s workshops provide engaging opportunities to network, share best practices, learn from industry leaders and more.
